Resonance Botanica, a phritz moment
Japanese indie electronic producer phritz finds comfort in the soft sounds. Known for his fusion of organic, nature-inspired sounds with a driving electronic pulse, phritz is part of a sonic movement which he has coined ‘Botanica’: “grass type music that makes you feel warm”. Phritz is a member of the online music community FORM and the Japanese pop project PAS TASTA. He has released with bitbird and Maltine Records, has collaborated with Aiobahn, Tomggg and Dabin, and was featured on Porter Robinson’s ‘cherished music’ playlist. ‘Resonance Botanica’ is a perfectly assembled ensemble of elegantly arranged strings and acoustic instruments with soothing synth textures, heartfelt song fragments, and shuffling percussion. Each sample is handcrafted and imbued with phritz’s unique musical footprint, a trailhead revealing multiple paths to explore yourself.“Inspired by the vivid hues of nature,” phritz tells us, gesturing toward the flowery meadow ahead, “this pack is intended to be a warm welcome to the sonic landscape of Botanica.”

In this pack, producer and bedroom pop extraordinaire Michael Bruner explores the granular capabilities of Serum in the Botanica style. Grab Serum presets that'll send you into a lush, vibrant, wondrous world of exploration. Deriving inspiration from nature, Botanica music (aka 'petalcore') combines nostalgia-tinged timbres from acoustic instrumentation like piano, strings, guitars, and vocals with spectral processing and glitch elements. Rather than leaning into clear melodies or traditional song structures, it often borrows from ambient music, flowing freely between different textures.
Vocal Botanica - Michael Bruner
VOX presents ‘Vocal Botanica’ Michael Bruner’s exploration into a budding genre that weaves natural outdoor soundscapes with intelligent sampling techniques, uplifting chord progressions, and cute (but sometimes ugly) hyper pop vocals. Bruner’s vocals span a panorama of emotions and recording experiments that germinated from the very real dynamics of living a minimal life on the outskirts of Bloomington, Indiana in a 22’ camper. Bruner’s approach to ‘Botanica’ or (‘grass-type music’) smears the line between conventional and DIY recording with this new pack, making an artistic statement while also encouraging us to embrace our imperfect, dirty, human existence that we cannot hide from – nor should we. In Bruner’s own words: “My aim was to strike a balance between versatility, novelty and tasteful imperfection. I genuinely enjoyed every moment of creating this pack. It was so raw and real.
