Jazz Boom Bap feat. Alita Moses
Soul Serum Keys with Harold O’Neal
You could call Harold O’Neal a jazz pianist, sure, but it would be equally accurate to call him a keyboard cryptologist. His talents are the type that clarify while they elude, making the simple seem complex and the complex, simple. His sound reaches you far outside a venue, filtered through layers of drywall, insulation, and brick, no less powerful. A simple melodic progression played by O’Neal might can slap you out of an existential stupor. And once you make out the swagger of his fingers, the delicate dance between rhythm and tone, you need more. Jay-Z, U2, Ski Beats, Bobby Watson, and Boardwalk Empire have all leaned on O’Neal for his particular style of play, and we can see why. For Soul Serum Keys, we wanted something different than your average pack of future-leaning Serum presets, so we invited O’Neal to visit our studio and play some jazz and soul keyboard arrangements with his particular approach. We recorded both his audio and his midi output, capturing the essence of his timing and tac. We turned this performance into unique Serum presets that match the overall vibes of what he played: jazz-infused keys and soul-soaked sounds. In addition to the presets, we’ve included the midi stems and the original audio, chopped into arrangement-ready loops and one-shots.
Jazz Cuts feat. Alita Moses
This pack is the first of a five-part series created over the course of five sessions in New York. Splice Originals: Jazz Cuts was recorded and composed much like an album would be executed. This installment embodies the cool jazz scene of the west coast with an added dose of Gil Evans-style orchestration. Some of the other influences were Bill Evans, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Flying Lotus, Freddie Hubbard, Stan Getz, Astrud Gilberto, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. We also played homage to those who brought California jazz into another genre, and therefore, another era. You’ll find a heavy dose of J Dilla and Madlib-style boom-bap on the flipped side. The result is a multi-tracked orchestra, chopped and reimagined. It’s smokey jazz meets sweeping strings and horns all set to banging boom-bap beats. These sounds simultaneously evoke the nostalgia of underground clubs from the 1950s and early 2000s, taking us on a true journey through time. In the Jazz Cut sessions, Parker McAllister was on the upright bass, Ben Wareham on saxophones and trumpet, Matt Block on trumpet, Josh Henderson on violin/viola, Mike Birnbaum on drums, and Alita Moses on lead and backup vocals. With a long love of jazz, Moses pulled inspiration from the sounds of her childhood which was filled with the music from every genre from Ella Fitzgerald to Bach, and beyond.
Andreas Klein - Jazz Drums

Andreas Klein has performed on numerous festivals across Europe, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival. He has received several prizes at international jazz competitions, e.g. 1st price at "Amersfoort Jazz Talent Award" and has been awarded with a full scholarship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) in 2010 and 2011. Andreas has performed drums with Jean-Michel Pilc, Gerard Presencer, John Clayton, Howard Brofsky, Susan Martin Weinert, Christof Thewes, Roland Gebhardt, Jimi Tenor, Jules Buckley, Wayne Krantz, and Joe Lovano.
Brax Stax: Braxton Cook
Braxton Cook's musical influence and influences on music are almost as interchangeable as his gifts. He can summon John Coltrane and Frank Ocean within the same 4-bar phrase, his saxophone, voice, and keys sliding effortlessly between soul and jazz and cosmic R&B. A graduate of Juilliard, Cook's skills on the saxophone and polymath perspective give him an inimitable sound. That sound has garnered him respect from his contemporaries, as well as a spot on a Grammy-nominated record with trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, tours with Tom Misch, collaborations with Mac Ayres, and a feature on NPR's Tiny Desk series. He has his own thing to say the least, and we recorded that thing faithfully. He put his saxophone through the paces, then pulled out a Prophet-8 and a Wulitzer and went wild. The resulting loops and one-shots of sax, synth, voice, and flute have a focus that goes well with in hip hop, neo-soul, R&B, jazz, or cinematic productions.

Jazz Guitar Hangs with Rotem Sivan
Recorded at the Splice studio in New York City, Jazz Guitar Hangs is a collection of guitar and MIDI melodies and chord progressions composed and performed by Brooklyn-based guitar virtuoso Rotem Sivan. We tracked pristine D’Angelico instruments through Rotem’s personal pedalboard and our analog signal chain. We simultaneously captured the performances as MIDI using Fishman TriplePlay MIDI pickups. Then, we used Serum to design preset patches around each sample. The result is a collection of Rotem’s delicious melodies, tasty basslines, and ear-catching chords, served up in audio, MIDI, and Serum preset formats. Special thanks to Rotem Sivan, D’Angelico, and Fishman for partnering with Splice to create this sample pack.
Shapes: Avant Garde Jazz
Experience the cutting edge of sound with Shapes - Avant Garde Jazz by artist, composer and musician Charles Goold accompanied by a host of some of the best instrumentalists in the NYC jazz scene. Perfect for producers seeking to push musical boundaries, the pack includes chaotic horn riffs, abstract drum patterns, offbeat piano lines, and atmospheric soundscapes. Ideal for jazz fusion, experimental genres, and creative sound design, these samples provide limitless possibilities for innovation."Avant-garde jazz is a radical, experimental subgenre that emerged in the late 1950s and early 1960s, rooted in the freedom and innovation of bebop and post-bop but pushing the boundaries of conventional jazz structure. It sought to break away from traditional harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic constraints to explore new forms of expression, often through improvisation, unconventional time signatures, and dissonant tonalities. This release pays homage to Ornette Coleman's 1959 album The Shape of Jazz to Come, often cited as a landmark in the subgenre. Coleman abandoned traditional harmonic progression and introduced free-form improvisation. John Coltrane, already known as a hard bop artist, entered the avant-garde movement in the 1960s with albums like A Love Supreme and Ascension, embracing spiritual and experimental sounds. Other notable mentions in this “Free Jazz” era are the likes of legends Cecil Taylor and Sun Raa.Charles Goold is a graduate of The Juilliard School and has become one of New York City’s hardest working musicians. Featured alongside him on this pack is a special assembled band consisting of Mark Lewandowski (Bass), Davis Whitfield (Piano), Ben Soloman (Saxophone), all touting long resumes in New York’s jazz scene. This pack was recorded at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn NY, a flagship studio in the jazz community with session engineering by Nolan Thies.Whether you're aiming for chaotic improvisation or minimalist abstraction, these avant-garde jazz elements will elevate your production to new artistic heights.
