Lofi Dub Reggae feat. Ranking Joe
Much like its people, music from the Caribbean is always moving. Always being experimented and iterated on, always morphing into the next thing that’s going to pave a path for Western pop genres to follow. Dub is no different. The subgenre grew out of reggae music in 1960s Jamaica, pioneered by King Tubby, Ruddock, Lee Scratch Perry, and Errol Thompson. Dub was one of the earliest forms of electronic music. The style consists of partial or complete instrumental remixes of existing recordings achieved by manipulating and reshaping them. This is typically done through the removal of some or all vocals, adding emphasis on the rhythm section (the stripped-down drum-and-bass track is sometimes referred to as a riddim), the application of studio effects such as echo and reverb, and the occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works. Each layer of this pack was meticulously performed and recorded to create a whole vibe. Once we had bass grooves in place layered with keys and guitars, Ranking Joe joined the studio to lay down his vocals. Then we added more instruments including horn arrangements. Every single audio file was processed in some way through the Roland Space Echo, which is an essential part of the dub sound. Our goal was to transport those who visit these sounds back to the legendary Studio One days. The result is a deep-dive study of the classic dub sound.

Island Reggae
Island Reggae is Splice Sessions’ first Reggae pack from our studio time at Anguilla Music Academy. The most recent influences on Anguilla's musical life come from neighboring islands in the Caribbean, especially the music of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as abroad from the U.S. and the UK. Anguilla's Rastafarian heritage has played a role in the island's music and culture, as well, making Reggae one of its most popular genres. As both islands are British Commonwealths, Anguilla and Jamaica share the prominent language of English, and both have a small population that carries on the tradition of Jamaican Patois, an English-based creole language with West African, Taíno, Irish, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Chinese, and German influences. This pack features some of Anguilla's most prominent musicians, listed below, including vocals from the one and only legendary Bankie Banx, known as the "Anguillan Bob Dylan”. His first album Roots and Herbs, released in 1978, pioneered reggae music in the Eastern Caribbean. All featured musicians in this pack include:Drums - Jaiden FlemingDrums - Kyle WoodleyBass - Larry HodgeBass - Curtis RobinsonGuitar - Gordon HazelGuitar - Daniel ConnorKeys - Kerwyn GoddardKeys - Dady HodgieKeys - Kevin ArchibaldKeys - Dennis WarringtonVocals / Harmonica - Bankie BanxVocals - Omalie 360

Liberation
“Liberation” calls back to a culture and time period of Jamaican music that changed lives. In the 70’s, roots reggae artists sang songs of black pride, spirituality, resistance, and resilience behind sound beds of booming bass, steady drums, and blaring organs on analog tape. With “Liberation”, we carefully and meticulously took the time to recreate this process step by step, down to running each and every stem through a 24-track Studer A-827. This pack was created by producer Matthew Smythe playing organ, piano, wurlitzer, melodica and trombone, Keith “Kikah” Jackson playing drums and percussion, Nick Braham on electric bass and saxophone, and John Smythe on guitar/mixing and mastering. Engineered by Oliver Straus at Mission Sound in Brooklyn NY and Justin Miller at Milkboy the Studio in Philadelphia, PA.
Scientist - Space Invaders Vol. 2
The legendary dub reggae producer Scientist is back, sending us to hyperspace with layers of riddim, bass, echo, delay, and reverb, sculpting soundscapes that draw attention to the shape and depth of the space between sounds, and the sounds themselves. Jet off to another galaxy with these haunting melodies and pulsing grooves.
Senegalese Reggae
Produced by Pape Armand Boye at La Boutique Studios in Dakar, this pack brings together some of the top African reggae players to showcase the Senegalese spin on the genre. Processed through Roland Space Echos and other classic boxes, this pack gets close to the classic ‘80s sound of African reggae artists like Alpha Blondy, Lucky Dube, and Soul Raiders.
