Immaculate Ultra Funk: LA Stories
Immaculate Ultra Funk: LA Stories pays homage to the distinctive sounds of the classic funk records sampled and interpolated in West Coast Hip-Hop, Rap and Pop. Created in collaboration with Arthouse Acoustics, expect funked out wah-wah guitar, slick bass guitar grooves, wailing analogue synth leads and exotic electric piano progressions. These influences shine though in hits from Kendrick’s ‘King Kunta’ to ‘Bruno’s 24k Magic’. The Arthouse Acoustics team wrote full compositions and recorded with professional session musicians. These melodic stacks are included as full loops, alternative takes and b-sides. We curated the best selection of loops and one shots from these song sections and chopped and added complementary FX for instant inspiration. The compositions were resampled to create more unique loop layers that combine signature funk sonics with modern left-field sound design. Every loop has been meticulously key-tagged and tempo-synced. Live drums, percussion and shuffling, unquantized programming combine to create a one of a kind drum section, with the charisma of live experimentation and the punch and clarity of cutting edge drum design.
Iceland
As a special Explores project to recognize Earth Day, Charles Van Kirk & Splice's Josh Robertson visited Iceland's Vatnajökull Glacier and National Park, the largest glacier in Europe. Our intention is to create a sonic tribute to this incredible formation of ice. There is a sense of urgency to record these sounds before the well-documented recession of glaciers continues further as a result of climate change. A variety of microphones were used, including a 5.1 channel surround mic, and pressure sensitive mics (placed directly on the ice) to capture tonal and percussive sounds. We treated pieces of ice as percussion instruments playing them with hands, mallets and other implements. The natural sounds of the glacier were also captured - creaks and groans, massive ice serac collapses, glacial melting and runoff, and massive echoes. Charlie used the recordings as a springboard for sound design and manipulation upon returning to New York, using Sensory Percussion developed by Sunhouse to play the sounds of the ice. NOTE: Please refer to the documentation for your DAW to confirm it supports multichannel WAV files before downloading the "5.1 Surround Bonus Sounds."

Splice Sessions is excited to present another release in partnership with producer ISS 814 (Ismaila Talla), who worked on Dakar Trap and Afro Trap with us. That Sound presents Dirty Disco Vol. 1 crafted by That Sound’s cofounder and drum extraordinaire, Paul Mabury with Javier Solis as a featured guest on percussion. Mabury is a Grammy-winning Nashville-based drummer and producer who’s had many number-one hits. This pack was inspired by the disco music of the 1970s and ‘80s, featuring tight and punchy drums and a wide variety of complimentary percussion one-shots and loops. To maintain authenticity, the musicians used 1980s Rodgers and Yamaha drum kits with CB-700 concert toms. Over 15 different percussion instruments were played live in the recording of this pack. The genre really took off in the 1960s and ‘70s when the Cuban administration brought aid to West African countries gaining their independence from France, resulting in an influx of Cuban immigrants to Africa. Recorded at Laboutique Studios in Dakar, this pack is a Senegalese take on the Afro-Cuban style. The result is a unique hybrid of Latin dance music and West African rhythms.
