Dippin' Sauce - Indie Country
Consider this your indie country starter pack. Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist Jarrad K explored bands and musicians who, while influenced by American Country music, don’t fit neatly into the 'country' genre—artists like Wilco, Andrew Bird, Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, Bon Iver, and more. The resulting one-shots and loops are exciting and alive, sometimes even slightly off-kilter. They include the textures he reaches for when digging through samples to evoke feelings of melancholy, hopefulness, tension, and release. To achieve this, he took a hybrid approach to recording the drums with ribbon and dynamic mics so they'd retain a punch while feeling warm and cozy. To further capture that authentic, dynamic sound, he recorded onto cassette tape using a Yamaha MT8X and printed some drums through the Tascam 38 tape machine.

Wesley Theory: Hip-Hop & Soul Stacks was recorded at the legendary United Recording, Studio A, featuring their iconic 72 input Focusrite Console. The centerpiece of the control room is a custom-built Neve 68 input 8068/8088 console and a 10 input Neve BCM 10 with original 1073 mic-pre EQ’s to bring the full studio experience. The sounds in this collection were mixed by Capitol Studios resident mixing engineer, Chandler harrod - delicately adding analogue flavour to the sounds while leaving dynamic and sonic headroom for the end user to further manipulate, rework and flip the sounds. With the highly acllaimed Wesley Theory at the forefront of this collection and as Kendrick Lamar’s band, no expense was spared at capturing a unique sound. Made up of Tony ‘Tony Chicago’ Russell, Rico Nichols, and ‘Freaky’ Rob Gueringer, Wesley Theory are known for their roots as Chicago and Los Angeles musicians. Tony “Chicago” Russell is a professional bass player, musical director and Grammy nominated Producer and Songwriter from the Westside of Chicago. He’s currently the music director for Grammy Award winning Kendrick Lamar. Tony has played for artists such as Jay Z, Diddy, John P Kee, Smokie Norful, Jamie Foxx and many more. Rico Nichols is the drummer for Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Kanye West’s Sunday Service, BJ the Chicago Kid and more. “Freaky” Rob Gueringer is the guitarist for Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Lil Wayne and many more. All sounds are 100% royalty-free and every loop and one-shot has been meticulously tempo-synced for ease of use.

60s Motown Drops
60s Motown Drops features loops and hits inspired by the legendary Motown Records sound, engineered, performed and produced by Timmy Rickard. This album takes its inspiration from the sound of the 1960's Detroit era of Motown Records, when the 'Funk Brothers' were the main musicians behind this pioneering sound and style. This release is influenced by artists such as The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight And The Pips. Motown Drops delves deep into the catalogue of this revered record label, and includes not only the Funk Brothers signature grooves, but also a wide variety of lesser known tracks, making this release as varied as it is classic. To recreate the 60s Motown Sound is almost impossible. Kits varied from session to session but Timmy studied the sound and we think we have created a great representation of the sound. Recorded in a large live room at Livingston 1 studio in London, the room was mic’d up as if there was a full Motown band in the room – brass section, vocal mic, talkback mic and then two mics on the kit – a kick, and a kit mic placed above the bass drum, between the rack toms and below the ride. Mix these mics into a 60s kit and voila the Motown sound is created. For customers that purchase the multi-tracks you will have the audio from each microphone in the room so you can mix the sound exactly as you want it.For the kit we used Timmy’s 1960s Ludwig club date kit with a 20” x 14” kick drum one 12” x 8” rack tom and a 14” floor tom. Four snares were used – two Ludwig Pioneer Snares, a Ludwig Hollywood Snare and a Slingerland Shelbyville Snare. We used two cymbals a Zildjian Trans Stamp and a Zildjian Constantinople Hammered cymbal (both doubled up as rides and crashes) and some Zildjian vintage hi-hats. Across the tracks there is tambourine, claps and congas. All the drums used Remo Ambassador heads.Mic wise we used Neumann Valve U47’s & 67s, Coles ribbon mics, a Sony C38b and an AKG Valve C28. Mic pre’s used were UA2-610’s, Telefunken V76s and a Neve 1073. All of the mics were recorded without EQ or compression except the overhead microphone which used an EAR valve EQ and compressor. All of the tracks were recorded on to a 16 track Studer A80 2” tape machine and then transferred to Pro Tools for mixing and editing. The drum tracks were mixed in Livingston 2 on a Custom Series CS75 console powered by Neve which is a modern desk based on vintage Neve technology. Included in the stems is an EMT plate reverb stem used on some of the drum tracks.

Soul Roots with Cover Story Doo Wop
If you’ve lived in NYC for long enough, you know Cover Story. The acapella doo wop group has been busking in the city for decades. The five men came up in the 60s and 70s, absorbing all kinds of music, including doo wop, a voices-only, more popular distillation of r&b. They sang in separate soul projects and doo-wop groups, but found something special when they combined their voices. Even now, Cover Story’s music truly exemplifies the delicate doo wop of yesteryear in both music and mood, but “with the feeling of gospel”. This is the same doo wop that directly influenced hip hop and modern pop. We captured their silken vocals and heavy harmonies in Brooklyn at Aura. We used a Beyerdynamic MC930, Avedis MA5 preamps, and a Bock 47 through a Great River preamp. The pack from that performance is full of lovelorn loops and wistful one-shots, and is perfect for any production that needs some background vocals that might steal your girl.

While these sounds were inspired by scenes from nature and are created with the modern producer/composer in mind, they provide a great starting point to add cinematic textures and emotion to projects in any genre.
