Block Tapes: Hard UK Rap

Block Tapes: Hard UK Rap sets its eye on the dark, hybrid sound of UK Rap. With a distinct note of Afroswing in the beats, but largely devoid of Afrobeat’s lush melodicism. Instead, we tap into the ominous atmospherics of grime and the minimalism of dancehall. 

Fresh, custom-designed drums are marooned under a bleak landscape of ghostly, high synth lines, minor chords, murky bass tones, and dubby echo. Lighter and lush melodies balance out the sound, set against a backdrop that’s creepy and muted with electronics churning in the distance.
