For this pack we gathered fundamental Middle Eastern percussion instruments - darbuka, riq (the Middle Eastern tambourine), frame drums (bendir, persian daf), dahola (clay darbuka), davul, tombak (aka zarb). Turkish Roots
Take an expedition through the rich sonic landscape of Turkey and parts of Egypt and Iran led by Istanbul Music Conservatory-trained musicians. The trio played traditional tunes with quarter tones and folkloric tunes from all over Turkey. They made these sounds using traditional Turkish instruments including the bendir, daf, darbuka, and riq for percussion; the kaval, kawala, and ney flutes and zurna plus duduk reeds for winds; and the electric baglama. The results are eclectic sounds both sultry and celebratory in character. The music of Turkey is some of the most uniquely mesmerizing, able to capture the attention and interest of anyone within ear's shot. Let these rare sounds inspire your productions.

Middle East Essentials - Bows
The Middle East Essentials series by Gio Israel sets the goal of capturing diverse, high-quality, and unique musical material. Making ancient music, sounds and instruments accessible through state-of-the-art sound sampling. Bows have a special role in Middle Eastern music, more traditionally, the Kamanche with its iconic heart breaking sound. An ancestor of the violin, the Kamanche is played in a seated position on the musician’s leg and is common to Persian and Turkish music found throughout Central Asia. More recent is the violin, which made its way to the Middle East and north Africa from Europe. It’s high pitch and the fact it can play Eastern (Maqam) scales gave it a special place in modern Middle Eastern music. For this pack we recorded masters Yagel Haroush on the Kamanche and maestro Gilad Hazan on the violin.
Middle East Essentials - Strings

Making ancient music, sounds and instruments accessible through state-of-the-art sound sampling. The oud is probably the most iconic Middle Eastern string instrument, with origins going back thousands of years. Different variations of the oud are spread around North Africa, Central Asia, and the entire Middle Eastern region. The instrument has three main types: the Arabian oud, Turkish oud, and the Persian barbat. The best musicians representing a range of backgrounds and origins gathered for this pack, each bringing their own unique sound and flavor from Yemen to Morocco, to Egypt, and Turkey.
