This is the first pack in a series of four we created with The Love Experiment, an NYC-based future-soul collective led by drummer, composer, and producer Charles “Blvk Samurai” Burchell. Formed in Boston, MA in 2010, the band has performed around the United States for the last six years, sharing the stage with artists such as Talib Kweli, Iman Omari, Mad Satta, Si * Se, Retro Stefson, Nesby Phips, and many more. Recorded in a way similar to how records are tracked, we started with the basics and layered on top, session by session. The result is an organic and soulful old school sound blended with a mix of new school flavor. Leaning heavily into the ways in which soul music has evolved over the past several decades, this pack includes classic soulful keys and vocals combined with African-inspired polyrhythms, jazz bass, hip hop beats, and more.

The Make Believe Files is a collection of sounds crafted and curated by Terrace Martin and processed to perfection in a way to retain a vintage feel. From lush loops to crisp thick drums, with an analogue hug of bass at 30 cycles. All sounds in this pack were recorded with a wide collection of vintage gear like the vintage Neumann U87, the vintage Neumann U67, and the Sony C-800G, ran straight into an API console and analogue gear like the Neve 1073s, Pultec and API.The Make Believe Files aims at creating an open sonic canvas for the beat producer in mind regardless of genre or style. With samples ranging from 90 BPM to 120 BPM, this collection offers a slew of loops, beats, drum hits and melodic one-shots oozing with quality and character, all with the Terrace Martin seal of approval. This pack was engineered by Rick Carson at Make Believe Studios in Omaha, Nebraska. Terrace Martin is a multi instrumentalist, rapper, singer, and record producer whose music production embodies funk, jazz, classical and soul. He has produced for some of the most iconic artists of this generation from Kendirck Lamar and Travis Scott all the way to Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder. All sounds are 100% royalty-free and every loop and one-shot has been meticulously crafted, curated and tempo-synced for ease of use.
Soul Jazz With Bryn Bliska
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Bryn Bliska is a producer, composer, and musician based in Brooklyn, NY. Her sound and skills merge a childhood soundtracked by 1990s pop and R&B jams with her jazz training and an affinity for technology. For this pack, she created a collection of stacked vocal arrangements, warm electric piano loops, beautiful upright piano progressions, and other gems to add organic flair to your productions or to spark original ideas. Bliska came up in the jazz world as a pianist and vocalist before becoming an accomplished composer and producer. As a result of combining these two worlds, her sound draws upon jazz, R&B, neo-soul, hip hop, pop, and electronic music. Some of her primary musical influences include Joni Mitchell, Frank Ocean, James Blake, J. Dilla, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, D’Angelo, Bjork, and Robyn.

This pack is by one of four Soundcloud x Splice NOVA Beat Battle winners, Michael Bruner, a Bloomington, Indiana-based singer-songwriter. His winnings included the opportunity to create this Splice pack, plus the distribution of his EP via SoundCloud's Repost. His pack embraces his bedroom lo-fi aesthetic while experimenting with found sounds, ambient soundscapes, and R&B grooves.
Laid Back: Neo Soul
The Love Experiment started in 2010 as a neo soul collective. In the beginning the goal was to create music that was timeless and could build upon the foundation laid by the legendary Soulquarian collective of Erykah Badu, Outkast, Qtip, The Roots, Roy Hargrove, Common, D’Angelo, and J Dilla. After ten years of touring and recording the band began creating sample packs. After the success of our Neo Soul pack on Splice Originals the group decided to return to our neo soul roots to bring a pack that oozes soul.An ode to timeless music, you can find songstarters to inspire your next creations, hard hitting drum one shots and loops, and smooth vocals to accent any production. Inspired by the groundbreaking production of D’angelo’s “Voodoo” record, the samples in this pack are intentionally behind the beat and laid back. We enlisted the incredibly talented drummer George Cook for this pack, he's played for, amongst many others, The Japanese House, Collard and Calum Scott. He has recorded on albums for Eminem, Birdy, Marika Hackman, Jamie N Commons, X Ambassadors, Bruno Major and Rag N Bone Man. Neo Soul was recorded by Billy Halliday (Frank Ocean, James Blake, Sampha, Duke Dumont)at Miloco's Livingston Studio 2 through their Custom Series 75 by Neve desk using only the finest mics from Neumann, Coles, AKG and AEA. Livingston Studio 2 is the perfect space for this kind of drum sound, with its snappy and tight sounding live spaces and massive array of high-end analogue gear. As ever this pack is all fully live and organic, with strictly zero quantising to ensure the feel and groove is fully retained to give your tracks that extra special feel.

This is the second release in a four-pack series with the neo soul group, The Love Experiment. Together, this series of packs tell the story of how soul music has shown up and evolved over the past several decades. For this vocal pack, Kim Mayo and Syl DuBenion channeled some serious Billie Holliday and Donny Hathaway vibes. They improvised all of their melodies through a stream of consciousness during their band’s studio session. We took these raw performances and used Vocalsynth, Antares Harmony Engine, and other effects to make these samples at home in any modern R&B or neo soul track.
