Radio Cumbia
Radio Cumbia is Tribe Caribe's 4th pack release on Splice. This pack is Tribe Caribe's own rendition of this incredible genre born in Colombia and currently spread across the Americas, from Argentina all the way to New York City! Tempo ranges go from 70bpm to 140bpm.Percussion is the heart of Cumbia, and we took great care in capturing quintessential instruments such as congas, guira, timbales, cowbell and many more. Field Notes, a Holly Waxwing moment
Holly Waxwing is a sound designer and composer based in Providence, RI. Holly’s latest project, ‘The New Pastoral’, is “…a painterly polyptych that stands apart from its contemporaries not only on merit of its sound, but also the strength and sincerity of its unifying theme and the dichotomy of pastoralism with the ultra-slick, commercial-skewing sound that PC Music is better known for,” writes Urvogel. Holly runs the sound design agency We Time Audio House and co-curated Noumenal Loom Records for the past 10 years. In addition, Holly is a regular contributor to citizen science efforts in the field of mycology. Holly’s haptic approach to sound is heavily informed by their ASD/SPD and sound has always had a synesthetic layer for them. We caught up with Holly on a walk through a tidal marsh to learn a bit more about the hi-fi nostalgia and synthesized super-nature that make up his pack. “Field Notes is a sonic distillation of 5 years of notes taken on Planet Terr in the Virgo Supercluster. There was a remarkable similarity between some of the flora, fauna, fungi and even topography found on Terr and on Earth. Until the dust settles on the phylogenetics of Terr, I’ve used adjacent English common names and Latin wherever possible for clarity. I had the most success implementing Wavetable and FM modalities when transcribing my notes, and I can only hope that they will prove as helpful to you as they have to me. Special thanks to OrangeTone for making my field notes more legible and to OT & Estle for the first study into their broader implications.”

Psychedelic Cumbia
Splice Originals: Psychedelic Cumbia was produced in Colombia by Ernesto Santos and a team of cumbia performers who’ve been playing the style for years. Inspired by acts like Los Mirlos, Los Destellos, Los Hijos Del Sol, and Los Diablos Rojos, they focused on the rock-influenced psychedelic cumbia that came out of Peru and Colombia in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Find traditional cumbia rhythms crafted with congas, cowbells, güiro, timbales, and cymbals alongside the organ, guitar, bass, and synth loops that define surf rock. Soulful Strings with The Splice String Quartet
The Splice String Quartet returned to the studio to perform soulful strings in the classic 1970s soul style. For this edition, we focused on creating string loops that would be at home in modern and classic R&B productions. We recorded and layered the arrangements multiple times to create a larger chamber ensemble sound that resembles the classic Motown Records and Brunswick Records releases of the 70s. Influences that inspired the string compositions in this pack range from the classics of Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, and The Delphonics all the way through modern acts like Khalid and Daniel Ceasar. Comfort Collage, an oakscreen moment
oakscreen is a 23 year old experimental electronic songwriter that has worked with 8485, lieu, and blackwinterwells as both a producer and a vocalist. Equally drawing inspiration from algorithmic art and forest moss, his music combines aspects of folk, noise, and pop into a resulting sonic landscape that feels like broken light beams coming in through a dusty window. During a brief meeting in the void, we asked the wanderer about his new ‘Comfort Collage’ sample pack. “I started with a lot of the sounds that I frequently use in my songs, broke them into pieces and then put them back together.” Muffled through layers of woolen shawl, he continues, “I’ve always been obsessed with things that feel warm, pretty, and flawed and that’s exactly what I’ve tried to capture within this pack.” ‘Comfort Collage’ unearths today on Splice Sounds, ready to fill your productions with organic rhythms, ethereal atmospheres, and a faint memory of lullaby melodies packaged in a unique and essential audio multitool that blurs the line between digital and analog.

People often ask me how I make this sound and that sound. When making the pack, I spent a long time getting everything together and used VST synths Serum and Astra to make some of the sounds and exported them to audio for further processing. You will notice a lot of 80s style drums - I tend to make my drums as they did back in the 80s with slappy low-end snares, and I program them in a 4x4 format.I hope you guys enjoy using the pack as much as I did making it.

Classic Riddims: 80's Dancehall
In the early 80’s, the popular genre of Dancehall music emerged onto the Jamaican music scene, as deejays would take popular songs from the 60’s, and recycle them while adding drum beat from a machine. “Classic Riddims” follows this recipe to the tee, with 15 expertly crafted Melodic Loops featuring huge bass, chopping guitar and piano, and bubbling organs. In addition, “Classic Riddims” boasts over 120 one-shots with echo and plate reverb effects for the real dub sound. There are also 15 Drum Loops (in 3 varieties, totaling 45 total drum loops!) programmed on a 1986 Yamaha RX-7, recorded through an award winning analog chain of a 1073-style preamp, 1176 compressor, LA-2A compressor, and Pultec EQ. HLZ 'Dusty Analog'
HLZ is a worldwide renowned D&B Music producer signed to Goldie's legendary label Metalheadz, one of most respected electronic music labels in the UK.A veteran of the scene, he has released numerous projects for other labels like Integral and Dispatch and is working on album projects for both Metalheadz and Dispatch.Peak moments in 2018 when his track "Dream Source" was selected by Max Cooper for his VA Balance 030 and in 2019 when Goldie asked him to remix his track "Crystal Clear". The remix came out on the legendary "London Recordings".Constant research on sound leads HLZ's distinctive music, where a strong contrast between light and dark is always present. His ability to fully immerse himself into any number of styles is second to none.HLZ Notes:I admit it wasn't easy to do this sample pack! But, being a perfectionist, I wanted to be sure that the samples were up to a certain standard. The only way to know if I was doing this right was to be inspired by these samples and make sure that they could be something I could use in my day-to-day workflow, and I'm pleased with the final result. On top of that, I'm a synth guy, so you can expect to find sounds I created using legendary synths like Andromeda A6, Oscar, and Pro one and modern classics like Moog Matriarch, Pro 2, Prophet 6 and more. The pack is musical but also aggressive. It is funk but also melancholy. It reflects my vibe and emotions while I'm writing music, and I hope it will inspire you as much as it inspires me.
