Dystopian R&B

“Dystopian R&B” is a dark, experimental and atmospheric take on one of today’s most exciting genres. Inside, you’ll find enough glitchy vocals, tape-driven guitars, and hard-hitting drums to bring your most abstract ideas to life. All sounds were meticulously  selected, sculpted, and processed by producers, Byron August and Corey Smith-West, with help from the rest of Splice’s 2019 Creator Class.

By pulling from styles like indietronica, ambient and industrial music, “Dystopian R&B” brings a whole new arsenal of sounds into the modern trap or R&B producer’s studio. If you’re looking to mimic exactly what the next guy is doing, maybe this pack isn’t for you.  But for any producer, singer, or musician looking to step off the beaten path, it’s looking quite dystopian.

These sounds were created using a variety of analog, granular and software synthesizers as well as more conventional instruments recorded in studios across NYC. Each sound was run through a unique array of in-the-box programs, guitar pedals, and modular racks. Drums and Percs were designed using a blend of drum synthesizers, kits and found sounds, and processed to maximize punch.
