Smoke Dreams: Soul Tapes

Childhood friends Chris Hartz (Childish Gambino) and Nick Paul (St. Lucia) grew up in Los Angeles. Beginning their careers as players, a drummer and a pianist respectively, they’ve both carved places in the music business as sought-after producers, music directors, and players. Coming from backgrounds of soul, jazz, and hip hop, it felt natural to create a pack for incorporating all of these elements while paying homage to their home state of California.

The result is a collection of sounds reminiscent of the original soul sessions mixed with the production nuances of today. All of the samples are recorded through analog processing as well as to tape. These samples have soul heart with a laidback, chilled out vibe similar to Toro y Moi, Tame Impala, and Blood Orange.
