The Himalayas
Renowned experimental percussionist, Susie Ibarra traveled to the Himalayas in Sikkim, India to capture water percussion with hydro-phonic microphones, as well as bamboo one-shots, layered loops, various animal sounds, and textures from the region. She captured the water rhythms of glacial runoff in streams, waterfalls, and rivers, then added ambient omnidirectional recordings of the environment including bell sounds and distant chants from the Rumtek Monastery and bamboo recordings along the mountains of Gangtok.
Male Vocal FX
"Male Vocal FX" is the first instalment in our new Vocal range of samples, it's what we believe to be the most essential vocal pack for broad use so understandably it had to be our first release. Crammed full of new and classic vocal phrases, we've created a sample pack with an alternate spin, not only can you find standard male vocals sayings and phrases but also a great collection of chopped, stuttering vocal fx to fit just about any genre. All the vocals within the pack are ready to use straight out the box, we've already added fx and mastering but still left the near original EQ so can use the vocals a little heavy or just roll off what you need, add some extra top end EQ or tweak them a little gritty. The thought behind Male Vocal FX was to cram two sample packs into one, we added both essential vocals spanning back to the early 90's through to some crazy Vocal FX that you'll only understand by listening to the preview. ianhitsdrums 'Good Looking Breaks'
Ian Maciak is a Pennsylvania-based recording artist, drummer, and producer specializing in electronic music styles. With twenty years of percussion experience, he's worked alongside artists such as ALZRN CRMSN (Beacon), Micah Jasper (Rebecca Black), Jonathan Maron, Travis Stewart (Machinedrum), Onlyruin, Tigran Hamasyan, Tony Grey, Shigeto, 88Katanas and drums/produces for his solo project 'Trachuk' on the Queens, New York-based label Mechanical Official. His inspirations for drumming aren't other drummers but producers, DJs, and electronic musicians. I am heavily inspired by early 90's Jungle, UK Garage, Footwork, and many more experimental IDM artists.

KAVARI, Scotland’s dark mistress of deconstruction, known for horror-inspired soundscapes amid club chaos, championed by everyone from the Scottish Alternative Music Awards to Aphex Twin; cutspace, our supersonic scholar, a go-to producer for ian, xang & Moh Baretta innovating in frequency (and genre) extremes by pushing trap and plugg into ambient echelons; And oakscreen, a dusty nomad of the lofi depths, painting blankets of sound across the emotional landscape. The texture folder of a sample pack is often where miscellaneous sounds go to die, but not today—These 255 sounds comprise a comprehensive collection of everything textural: longform ambiences, tonal (and atonal) pads, noise layers to thicken your drums, sweeps, impacts, raw foley and more!
Polyrhythmic Palettes with Tristan Arp
Exploring polyrhythmic expressions and syncopated patterns, multimedia artist Tristan Arp presents a genre-bending sound palette of live bamboo mallets and analog percussion, synthesized and played by hand using a Nord Drum 3P and Moog Subsequent 37. Expanding on the conventional offering of samples, the experimental producer demonstrates the compositional structures of polyrhythms and their interplay in an Ableton template, complete with custom virtual instruments, Ableton presets, and MIDI arrangements. All sounds designed from scratch, performed, recorded, and edited by Tristan Arp.

The Soul Surplus team had the opportunity to craft this special release at the legendary “Sound Factory Studios” in Hollywood. Everyone from the Jackson 5 to Marvin Gaye, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dolly Parton are just among a few of the iconic artists that have recorded at this studio. It was only right to channel the success from this space with the team and call this release “Hollywood Soul.”We were able to play original music as a 4 piece band of guitar, bass, keys and drums using different sounds and tones from pedal boards all running through the analog outboard gear in the studio. We also had our friend Dave James provide soulful vocals over these loops to give users the perfect top line melodies and textures. With 10 full music loops, along with individual instrument loops, this pack also contains 50 Astra presets to assist your creation process. This pack delivers the hard-hitting drum breaks that formed the foundation of hip hop’s golden era. “Dystopian R&B” is a dark, experimental and atmospheric take on one of today’s most exciting genres. Inside, you’ll find enough glitchy vocals, tape-driven guitars, and hard-hitting drums to bring your most abstract ideas to life. All sounds were meticulously selected, sculpted, and processed by producers, Byron August and Corey Smith-West, with help from the rest of Splice’s 2019 Creator Class. By pulling from styles like indietronica, ambient and industrial music, “Dystopian R&B” brings a whole new arsenal of sounds into the modern trap or R&B producer’s studio. If you’re looking to mimic exactly what the next guy is doing, maybe this pack isn’t for you. But for any producer, singer, or musician looking to step off the beaten path, it’s looking quite dystopian. These sounds were created using a variety of analog, granular and software synthesizers as well as more conventional instruments recorded in studios across NYC. Each sound was run through a unique array of in-the-box programs, guitar pedals, and modular racks. “Testimony” is a sample pack that highlights a small part of the sonic journey of gospel from the 70s to the early 90’s. Gospel’s blues and soul roots always hold a foundation within the music with the common instruments usually being drums, bass, guitar, piano and organ but near the end of the 70’s and into the 80’s so many instrumentalists across genres started experimenting with including synthesizer instruments. Gospel musicians have always been among the most skilled and pioneering in the world. Simultaneously the voices of gospel singers have stood as the standard for heart and soul expression in popular music. The iconic Clark Sisters were a group that embodied this pioneering sound across eras that had such an impact well outside the gospel community. From their chart topping classic “You Brought the Sunshine,” to being sampled on Jay-Z’s “Family Feud,” the influence and impact is undeniable. This release features the innovative sounds of gospel’s experimentation with instrumentation and a predominantly female ensemble inspired by the likes of the Clark Sisters. In this pack you will have access to over half a gig of sound.
