Resonance Botanica, a phritz moment
Japanese indie electronic producer phritz finds comfort in the soft sounds. Known for his fusion of organic, nature-inspired sounds with a driving electronic pulse, phritz is part of a sonic movement which he has coined ‘Botanica’: “grass type music that makes you feel warm”. Phritz is a member of the online music community FORM and the Japanese pop project PAS TASTA. He has released with bitbird and Maltine Records, has collaborated with Aiobahn, Tomggg and Dabin, and was featured on Porter Robinson’s ‘cherished music’ playlist. ‘Resonance Botanica’ is a perfectly assembled ensemble of elegantly arranged strings and acoustic instruments with soothing synth textures, heartfelt song fragments, and shuffling percussion. For this Splice Originals release, we took a similar approach that you would to recording a dub record, leaning more on overdubs where you'd typically have a live band. Each layer was meticulously performed and processed to create a lo-fi vibe. Though this pack features bass, keys, horns, synths, and guitar layers, the focal point is Isha Bel's powerful, metallic vocals, delivered with bold tenacity. Reminiscent of the soulful sounds of the early days of reggae, balanced by the raw gritty energetic delivery of modern styles, Isha Bel has lended vocals and written songs for artists such as Chaka Demus, Jimmy Riley, and more. After seeing how well the world responded to the initial Sticks & Stones pack, we invited our resident multi-instrumentalist Dylan Kidd to craft another volume of original samples. In this pack, Dylan showcases his exceptional guitar skills, offering an array of acoustic and electric progressions that serve as the perfect starting point for any music session. Of course it also contains a ton of his signature track-ready live drum breaks, tops, and percussion loops. Dylan's sound is both progressive and natural, with each element being recorded live in his home studio and tuned to taste. Organic Elements explores the immense world of sound around us while embracing the freedom of using electronic and digital processing methods to create sonic moments greater than the sum of their parts. Field recordings, foley captures, acoustic instruments and organic percussion represent some of the basic elements in this pack. Additional layers of audio and editing are introduced to create a result that is immersive and captivating. These layered sounds are complemented by a number of rhythmic progressions that are split up into separate components such as top lines, percussion, and effects. Dirty Disco Vol. 2
Dirty Disco Vol. 2 was crafted by That Sound’s Grammy-winning co-founder and drum extraordinaire, Paul Mabury with Javier Solis as a featured guest on percussion. Inspired by the disco music of the 1970s and ‘80s, this pack features tight and punchy drums, as well as a wide variety of complimentary percussion one-shots and loops. To maintain authenticity, the musicians used 1980s Rodgers and Yamaha drum kits with CB-700 concert toms. Over 15 different percussion instruments were played live in the recording of this pack.
