SOPHIE Samples

umru - sound cache vol 3

布鲁克林 22 岁音乐家 umru 携《声音缓存》系列的第三部作品回归。 umru 凭借在 Charli XCX 2017 年混音带 Pop 2 中的首次制作,跻身流行音乐时代精神。18 岁时,umru 被 A. G. Cook 招募,共同制作精彩曲目“I Got It”。

umru - sound cache

“Search engine optimized from birth” reads umru’s Twitter bio. The Estonian-American producer, unique birthname aside, has plenty of reason to hit the top of your Google feed soon. After making waves transforming Lido’s bouncy “Citi Bike” into a sinewy, floor-rumbling banger, umru’s played shows across the west and east coasts and produced remixes for the likes of Y2K and Kid Froopy. To limit umru to any genre, be it future-bass, trap or hip hop, doesn’t give due diligence to his elusive sound design. According to umru, he’s worked closely with a team of “scientists, music therapists, and shamans,” to create a pack with audio “processed through analog gear and Skype's audio codec algorithm.” That part about shamans and Skype may or may not be true, but the sound design is otherworldly enough that it may as well be true. If you’re searching for hard-hitting drums and heavy 808s, let umru’s pack hit the top of your search results. Demo track by umru, verzache, william crooks, and Røhaan.

Princess Girlfriend 2, a tracey brakes moment

A few years ago, BTB (before tracey brakes) a pre-Tracey Tracey uploaded a “SOPHIE/Flume inspired” sample pack to r/drumkits under the pseudonym “Princess Girlfriend”, which garnered surprising success. Its clanging snares and goopy fx went on to shape the sound of multiple offshoots of the hyperpop scene. Tracey has since achieved notoriety as a producer, vocalist, and general twitter nuisance, and continues to drop free samples every month. Brakes now aims to bridge the gap between new and old with Princess Girlfriend 2.Comprised of genre defining bass growls, galvanized drum hits, inflated sonics, and melodies that sing like anthems, this pack is the most realized iteration of Tracey’s long held sound design headcanon. We met up with Brakes at her apartment in gm_construct to talk Princess process. “You might go from something reminiscent of a gentle anime soundtrack, to being submerged in the bleeding guts of a computer, to then fall out of the world, only to come out the other side riding a massive dubstep bass from 2011,” she says, rushing to obscure a folder marked ‘princessgf_3_final_final’ from our view. “I just sort of made anything I wanted, all of it speaks to who I am. I hope to inspire people to make whatever they want, [...] no matter how stupid or insane, no matter how beautiful or grotesque—I am hopeful that this pack aids that process for someone in some way.” Whether you’re a completionist or a newcomer to the tracey brakes lore-sphere, her biggest installment yet is a must-have. Princess Girlfriend 2, a tracey brakes moment is downloadable today!

droplets, a demotapes moment

demotapes is San Francisco-based producer and artist Parker Livingston. We call him the king of the tiny snare, but you may know him for many things: he is a vessel of inspiration on producer-tok and has released a handful of sample packs, with his indie-pop duo Cassette Tapes as well as under his own imprint “soundblocks.” He is also fresh off the release of his debut EP, “with friends”, all made over a series of discord calls with friends over the last year. ‘droplets’ is the result of hundreds of hours of sound design and composition. “It's no doubt my favorite pack I've ever made,” Parker tells us. A large focus has been put on tonal content, boasting 83 highly detailed song-starters, as well as plentiful tonal textures which serve as pedal tones and ambient drones that layer with just about anything. And of course it wouldn’t be a demotapes pack without his signature microscopic drums, available as hits, fills, and loops.Sitting bayside, we asked Parker about what ‘droplets’ means to him: “so much of the sound of my samples are influenced by living in San Francisco and being near water. Whether it’s layering foley sounds of the ocean, or making plucky synths that bend and stretch fluidly– those are the sounds that speak to me.”

Aquatic Wildlife Processing, an underscores moment

While April Harper Grey has been producing music as underscores since middle school, steadily endearing a burgeoning community of fans and collaborators in online bass music circles, her 2021 sophomore album—and first foray into guitar—‘fishmonger’, cemented underscores as not only as the sine wave wunderkind of Soundcloud, but a fresh new voice in pop music, opening for 100 gecs’ tour later that year.We caught up with the six impala member in the Middle of Nowhere to chat about ‘Aquatic Wildlife Processing — Employee Onboarding Module, step 3: Familiarizing Oneself with AWP (required for all prospective slime-line workers, packers, and dock crew)’, the lengthy rejected title for their comprehensive production toolset melding together meticulously crafted dubstep growls, tearjerker emo guitar, punk rock drums, Skrillex-level vocal chops, and everything in between into one hyper-modern pop package.“Yeah, I was doing a photoshoot around [AWP’s] new location and they were like, ‘Oh my god, do you make hyperpop? you should come in and bang on our walls sometime and make a remix or something.’ Usually that kinda thing REALLY annoys me but they offered me a LOT of money,” underscores tells us.‘Aquatic Wildlife Processing’ can be found on market shelves starting today.

Ocean of Dreams MEGAMIX, a hallow moment
Moment

Ocean of Dreams MEGAMIX, a hallow moment

Scottish music producer and indie game developer, hallow is a name that Soundcloud vets have seen between many a parenthesis. Known for their work producing for early digicore scene greats like Juno, twikipedia, funeral, yurms, and angelus. Like many of us, they were first moved to produce music in the early 10s after falling down the Youtube tutorial EDM pipeline, exposing themselves to the worlds of Monstercat, VGM, Skrillex, and Virtual Riot, and recently they have come back full circle. They are currently developing an indie rhythm RPG game called PETRICHOR, inspired heavily by games such as Yume Nikki and DS-era Pokémon games, and their recent solo music has taken on the sound of 2010s dubstep and nightcore—the moment just feels right.‘Ocean of Dreams MEGAMIX’ is spiritually aligned with these pockets of the mid 10s internet, but sonically it is more of a throw forward than a throwback. There’s heavy use of all the latest tech in bass music: from the pitch mapped synths of color bass to the monstrous spectral growls of modernly maximized DnB. Earwormy melodies put years spent in hyperpop discords to good use, while dancefloor-optimized drum loops lay the base for years to come—Phase Plant and Serum 2 presets too!“i want to make music with techniques that are modern but still holds a lot of the style and feeling of where i came from very close. getting the balance right is really fun ^_^”

Unicorn Time Capsule, a Moore Kismet moment

At the helm of the next generation of emerging electronic music artists, California native Omar Davis, better known as Moore Kismet, is in a class of their own. The non-binary and pansexual 18-year-old musical prodigy has become an advocate for LGBTQ+ teens and represents the beauty of what it means to be who you are. Since 15, they’ve been included three times on Billboard’s 21 Under 21, released their debut album “UNIVERSE”, and have become the youngest artist to perform at Lollapalooza and EDC Las Vegas, proving themself to be a bright light and incredible talent in the future of electronic music.‘Unicorn Time Capsule’ is a tribute to these formative years spent defining their sound, which they describe as “equal parts strangeness and equal parts beauty.” Mainstage-ready wonkiness meets intricate bass design like nothing we’ve heard before—expect tastefully-maximized drums, granular mutations, and vast melodic panoramas. “Sorry I'm late! My Lyfticorn and I were stuck in the absolute worst traffic. LA, right? Anyway, my publicist told me that you wanted to know more about the capsule,” they told us, windswept. “I really just wanted to conjure up some new sounds with unique layers and elements that you could pick apart as I do with my own work…my goal was to create a toolkit for any producer at any skill level to make any and all kinds of beautifully strange unicorn magic with!!”

Digital Sentimentality, an elxnce moment

An early figurehead of digicore, working with names like midwxst, kmoe, funeral, and NOVAGANG, there’s hardly a corner of the scene elxnce hasn’t had a hand in. elxnce’s distinct style effortlessly mixes neo-nostalgic tropes of ‘10s EDM with the artist-focused perspective of prime trap production. At the young age of 18, they already have years of scene-defining credits and collaborations under their belt.‘Digital Sentimentality’ is an ode to growing up online and a love letter to creating music in an internet space. Hard-hitting drums, all-basses-covered Serum presets, and hyper-catchy melodies that are definitively digicore (in MIDI and audio!).elxnce tells us this kit acts as a chronicle of their past 2 years of production, a truly eventful and sound-defining period for online music that we now have the rare chance to sonically tap into for the first time. “All genuine and full of love from me to you, this is the ultimate elxnce pack.”

Princess Girlfriend 3, a tracey brakes moment

In the last installment of the “Princess Girlfriend” series, our scythe-wielding sonic sorceress let 300 sounds loose into the hands of the music-making masses…leaving a trail of computer cries, catchy melodies, and inflated sonics in her wake, topping the Splice charts for months. Now, synth warlock Tracey Brakes is back after a year of hysterical tinkering—as well as collaborations with artists such as Bring me the Horizon—with the highly anticipated ‘Princess Girlfriend 3,’ this time with even more emphasis on variety and sonic exploration. In this episode, we find our heavy-bass heroine is still hacking and slashing away on her journey to eclectic sound-dom, and she’s made a magical, horned and hoofed friend along the way. Together, with Tracey’s sound design savvy and her pony friend Smart Water’s unicorn magic, they form an unstoppable force of musical creativity. She has since moved out of her liminal-esque apartment complex in gm_construct, to a hut fit for a witch in the mountainous countryside of gm_fork, where we convened for comment on her latest release:“Ever since that first pack was released on r/drumkits all those years ago, the goal has remained the same. The wonky basses, gooey effects, ludicrous snares, and evocative melodies remain ever variant in their color and creation, and all serve the purpose of wanting to inspire people to create work that is as personally honest with themselves as possible. Whether you are inspired to use your own equipment to create entirely new sounds, or use the ones I provide to switch things up, my job is done when you are inspired to create work that entirely speaks to you as a unique and creative individual! Make what you want forever because the world will be better from it.”

The Garden Ave member has had a traceable influence on internet music history with an ear for heavenly & hopeful melodies and glossy sound palettes which he’s shared with the community via a beloved series of Serum preset banks.‘utopia tone ii’ elaborates upon the world of its shiny yet organic predecessor, with a grittier twist. 127 masterful Serum 2 presets fit for a sequel are just as meticulous and mystical, but expose a rawer edge this time around. Synth basses, keys, leads, plucks, and pads from the end of time tangled up in a mossy web. The sparkling promise of the oasis breaks away as we draw closer to its fringe, overgrown roots taking hold of a once ultramodern scene, giving way to broken glitches and darker distortion amidst the subtle melody loops. “Each of these sounds carries a distinct beauty, telling their own story within my world.”

leroy Estate Sale, a Jane Remover moment

By just 19 years old, North Jersey-based artist Jane Remover has achieved cult status as a producer and vocalist under a slew of monikers. In late 2021, her critically-acclaimed Pitchfork-8.0-garnering breakthrough LP ‘Frailty’ lifted her eclectic bedroom production and honest lyricism into new territory. Inspired equally by video game OSTs and indie rock, Jane is just at the beginning of a career as a truly enigmatic singer-songwriter. ‘leroy Estate Sale’ contains the last remaining relics of Jane’s late ‘leroy’ moniker, once the pioneer of the sonic phenomenon known as ‘dariacore’, defined by mashing as many tropes of pop and EDM into single Soundcloud uploads as possible. Filled to the brim with razor-sharp, ear-bending drums, post-dubstep basses, and moments of gentler Jane Remover guitars and synths amid the leroy maximalism. We couldn’t reach Jane for comment, but she authored the following listing in the Wakita Herald: “Our beloved leroy has passed beyond the mortal plane. Estate Sale at 19 Moment Street, Wakita OK. echo glen, a bio moment

Ohio-based sound designer, technical artist, and developer bio has a knack for pseudo-natural sounds. Purveyor of scene-staple sample packs, frequent collaborator of Moment-alums tracey brakes and DJ Re:Code, and treasured resident of online music-community goop house, bio has an elemental sound omnipresent in the internet music ecosystem. Bio’s specialization in imitation of natural and tactile sounds using off-the-wall synthesis sets her apart from her peers: rather than larger-than-life, abrasive textures, bio’s sights are set toward the little things. ‘echo glen’ is a haven lost to time, swallowed by overgrown flora. You may find microscopic melodies, the calls of friendly creatures, or the loose percussive grooves of insect chatter. Foraged from living material and transcribed precisely with synthetic tools, the sonic result is the unpredictability of nature distilled into digital perfection. In an unpublished excerpt based on her time in echo glen, bio writes: "The stone, whose ornate carvings now pressed into her skin, shone a pale grey against the damp moss and undergrowth about this place. A din of scintillating calls and songs and stridulating animated the moist air; she thought, perhaps in lieu of some expected stillness, it was strange not to feel like a visitor, but more like a voyeur. She looked to the stone, it stared back blankly and the angel wondered if being forgotten needed somebody to do the forgetting."

Whether it be pop, club, or sound collage her musical focus is finding the connective tissue between the challenging and the accessible, always with a strong sense of play. Her work has gained the attention of Iggy Pop, David Byrne & Adult Swim, and has recently gone viral on Tik Tok for her "brain scratch" sound: a hyper-stimulating binaural blend of ASMR, IDM, and ambient. We sat down with Tipton in her community garden to pick her brain a bit about the sounds in her pack.  “I wanted to give people access to a lot of the ‘brain scratch’ sounds to make their own stimulating beats, collages and messes. Most ASMR is tactile and made from recording real physical objects, but I wanted to simulate that digitally using synthesis and physical modeling, as well as transform real ASMR field recordings into something very digital. I just want people to have fun with this pack and hope it encourages exploration deeper into weirder internet music.” Full of head-swirling melodies, 3 dimensional 808s, 4 dimensional FX, and tingling textures in 360 degrees, brain scratches, a galen tipton moment, is available today on Splice.

Somewhere in the lost lands between post-vaporwave and YouTube poop sits the unadulterated sincerity of trndytrndy. A sound spanning many internet scenes, genres, and aesthetics, they have been sharing music on Soundcloud since 2016, previously under the names Cube Panda and Ringtail. They’re known in the hyperpop world for collaborations like ‘1’ with Petal Supply, umru, and Himera (which landed them in NPR’s Best Music of 2021) and remixes for artists like That Kid but these hardly scratch the surface of their expansive musical range.‘missing texture’ collects the best of the best: a culmination of many styles and the latent space between files. From modern electronic leads to the classic sounds of early 90s r&b, city-pop to post-punk, and radio bumpers to club bangers, there’s no misses. Matter of fact, the only thing ‘missing texture’ is missing here is the warm embrace of your harddrive! We caught up with them in the pre-render viewport for a low-poly chat about the sample pack: “I tried to capture the versatility and fluidity in my style of production…I’d describe this pack as a grab-bag of different vibes, glitched and warped, like bits and pieces of different eras and feelings inspired by life online.”

refridgerator, a food house moment

food house is a 2-person frenetic internet supergroup composed of Fraxiom and gupi. The pair bonded while both living in (and despising) Fraxiom’s home state of Massachusetts, one the many topics of ‘Thos Moser’, their first collaboration and smash hit first release on Dylan Brady’s Dog Show Records. Like much of their self-titled album, it’s crammed full of pop culture references and obscure inside jokes, but resonates much deeper than its surface-level silliness through gupi’s expansive, addictive instrumentals and Fraxiom’s earnest and unapologetic lyrical perspective.‘refridgerator’ is home to the nutritious essential elements of food house’s distinct palate. Mixing dark twisted bass with uplifting and energetic melodies, this pack expertly distills the duo’s sound as a collaborative production force. If you seek silly snares, satiating song-starters, salacious synth stabs, and a solid squirt of Serum swag, you’ve surely found the source. We bumped into the pair in the kitchen, and asked about the contents of ‘refridgerator’. gupi told us “I love to create assets for your audio endeavors,” and Frax, while adjusting an iPod Nano hairclip, chimed in: “these are my favorite ingredients that I use in my daily cooking. *nuzzlez u*”refridgerator, a food house moment, is part of a balanced breakfast, and is out today on Splice!

In Orbit, a Jukaa moment

In Orbit, a Jukaa moment

Jukaa is a fresh name and approach for a veteran Dutch producer. With 10 years of expertise under his belt as Ecepta and in the DnB duo The Outsiders, garnering support from scene legends like Noisia, the Jukaa project emerged from a newfound love for cute, charming, pop flavors while staying true to his roots in sweaty club material. Kickstarted by a string of now-legendary pop bootlegs and evolving into wholly original music, the Jukaa project is only just beginning to explore this marriage of dark and light.‘In Orbit’ is all about this duality: an oscillation between the sounds of day and night, cycling through natural worlds of shimmery synths and the darker beats of club-level chaos. Sweet, charming melodies, synthesized yet human textures, and warm, cozy tones contrast with the chops of a veteran club edit producer: drum grooves from UKG to dubstep, deep rolling basses, and crisp laser zaps, merging the technical skills of modern dance production with a strong pop sensibility.“I’ve been thinking a lot about how many different types of ‘cycles’ are always going on and how they influence my creativity and tastes,” Jukaa tells us about the idea behind the pack title.“There are external cycles, like day & night, seasonal shifts and trend cycles, as well as internal cycles like phases of motivation and stagnation. Instead of fighting these in pursuit of consistency, I started embracing them and seeing the beauty in that natural movement of things, and how it shapes and feeds my creative flow.”

Moment

sacred geometry, a threedimensionsapart moment

Texas-based producer and vocalist threedimensionsapart has been making music since they were 9 years old. An early influence in the development of the underground soundcloud pop scene that became known as digicore, tda was instrumental in some of the scene’s breakout hits by artists such as lieu, juno, and lei—who’s debut project ‘heartsick’ was produced fully by tda—and has since produced for a wide range of artists from Duwap Kaine to 2hollis, as well as their own self-produced songs, revealing their talent for heartfelt songwriting over anything from full-blown rock instrumentals to more trap-influenced beats.‘Sacred Geometry’ crystallizes tda’s broad range of skills into a concise, ready-to-use kit, boasting everything from emotive guitar and pad textures, to handmade drum one shots reflecting classic trap sounds as well as acoustic drums in a bright new light, to new staple Serum presets. In a way it’s a definitive bedroom producer pack, with hand-recorded foley finding its way into many of the sounds, yet it’s anything but amateur—they’re hit-ready sounds with a lot of heart. On a call from their bedroom, in front of a massive American Football banner, tda tells us they just hope the pack can “expand people’s current sound palette to new levels” and hopes users “get inspired to create something new.”

SOURCE_ERROR, a wubz moment

To anyone within earshot of the Soundcloud digicore scene over the past few years, wubz is a revered name, yet anonymous character. They’re an internet-bound bedroom beatmaker like many of their peers, but “their uncharacteristically pitched-down vocal stylings provide the yin to the scene’s pitched-up yang,” writes Katie Manners. wubz is a sonic storyteller whose music deals with aggression and anxiety, creating a chaotic and cathartic sound stage that’s all self-produced.‘SOURCE_ERROR’ is a fantastical, twisted, bitcrushed landscape. A palette of wistful guitars, nostalgic OST-type synths, and mix-slashing drums downsampled into oblivion, then upscaled back to maximum potency and punch.“I wanted this pack to sound like you were sucked into a game… and you have to beat it to get out,” wubz tells us over a choppy Discord call. “Everything you create with it will sound like boss music.”

Bismuth Reliquary, a DJH moment

DJH is a Cologne-based musician who traverses the outer borders of experimental dance music, contemporary rap production and wide-screen melancholia. He’s released multiple scene-celebrated electronic projects as well as contributed production to an array of major label pop and rap releases, most recently Playboi Carti’s “Different Day” with his duo OUTOFAIR. He’s no stranger to the Moment family, as a collaborator of umru, sv1 and cutspace, and a hired gun on the ‘Riser Stars’ and ‘Deck Thrashers XR’ Moment packs. Now, with ‘Bismuth Reliquary’ he’s set out to conjure an “intangible feeling of timelessness” in a sample pack without relying on nostalgic tropes of AAA pop music production. Caught between past and future, the pack employs sounds from early 2000s VA synthesizers like the Alesis Ion and Nord Rack 2, crystallizing their distinct features into new shapes. “The desire to access the intangible fascinates me,” DJH tells us, “these tools made to emulate natural reactions of electrical current always fall short, but end up in a liminal world of untapped sonic possibility.”Harvested from this world are a set of classic yet uncanny sounds and 40+ Serum presets that promise to stand the test of time.

kmoement, a kmoe moment
Moment

kmoement, a kmoe moment

Vancouver-based wunderkind kmoe was a central figure of hyperpop-digicore history at an absurdly young age, working with Jane Remover, juno, Syzy, quannnic, and just about everyone in the burgeoning Soundcloud-Discord scenes of the early 2020s. Now still just 20 years old, the artist and producer is still evolving: his new music expands on the hyper-digital sheen of that formative era and explores more organic palettes and rawer, more direct songwriting.‘kmoement’ is a yerba mate-fueled showcase of talents old and new, exhibiting kmoe’s incredible ear for instant hit melodies and clean-cut, song-focused sound design. Save for a couple vocals and guitars, he lovingly synthesized the entire pack from scratch: quirky synth percussion, harmonic-heavy basses, and addictive synth sounds playing just-as-addictive melodies. It’s not about crazy production techniques or wacky gear, every sample is just whole and well crafted—this pack just sounds good. “Are you ready for your kmoement?” kmoe asks to Moment.

Deck Thrashers XR, a DJ Fuck moment
Moment

Deck Thrashers XR, a DJ Fuck moment

To round off an incredible season for Moment, we wanted to drop something special we’ve been working on for months—a pack from a name the whole industry swears by... DJ Fuck is the manic turntablist alter ego of pioneering virtual performer, artist & VR puppeteer Sam Rolfes, whose chopped-up hyper-speed AV internet-music DJ sets have torn up stages with Danny L Harle, Lil Mariko, Dorian Electra, PC Music, and more across the experimental club world. Their sets are fast, manic, and collide CDJ instrumentalism with a spray of breakcore, hardstyle, hyperp*p, and assorted meme music. Deck Thrashers XR is a sample-pack-homage to the classic scratch records of DJ Qbert while also investigating the limits of modern CDJ technology. We tasked Moment alum DJH to create original breaks, zaps & full club-ready tracks for DJ Fuck to scratch, chop, and spin back into oblivion. Then we tasked umru to do the rest! :)Primarily recorded in one day at a Pirate studio, our goal was to bring the unique sonic character of the equipment we hear out every weekend right into your DAW at home. From ear-catching scratch loops to crowd-hyping fx, as well as original vocals from DJ Fuck and longtime collaborators Holly+, and Katabelle, Deck Thrashers XR is our largest pack to date, with 391 samples of pure deck carnage. Reviewing the pack’s recordings, we had Sam translate some of their alter ego’s ramblings: ”OUAGH BABYY (this collection is a new, digital take on classic turntablist break records)”, the crazed disc jockey can be heard screaming between takes, and continued to elaborate with a series of Korn-like grunts “OOWACKA WACKA GRRRRRRAOUW DECK THRASHERZ YAYAYAYA (in collaboration with DJH, Deck Thrashers XR breaks apart the CDJ jogwheel as a one-dimensional instrument and expands it into a cintense melodic and rhythmic cascades)”.

even if it hurts... a j1mmy moment

j1mmy is an Australian-born producer known for dreamy, esoteric trap productions and his Youtube & Tiktok content where he’s built a following sharing the techniques, inspiration, and positive philosophy behind his work. Sonically, he takes cues from various schools of modern rap’s underground—Surf Gang, Drain Gang, plugg and ambient trap—with a consistent ear for melancholy and memorable melodies, catching the attention of Surf Gang’s Eera, resulting in their recent collaboration ‘Not Now’.‘even if it hurts…’ is j1mmy’s first full sample pack, boasting everything from tearjerker songstarters to soft, cozy drum hits, charming Serum synths to lo-fi game effects. It’s versatile yet incredibly thematically consistent: when working on the pack, one of the first things j1mmy sent us was a slideshow of foggy concrete buildings and vintage anime vignettes. “This pack was heavily influenced by PS1 games and 90s/00s anime culture,” j1mmy tells us. It's fully steeped in the ethos that what’s left behind is fundamental and that the cracks are important to show. “I wanted to strip back all but the necessities. creating samples that were honest & to the point, but still felt human.”

SPOiiLSPORT, a BABii moment
Moment

SPOiiLSPORT, a BABii moment

BABii is the alter-ego of master creator, world builder and electronic adventurer Daisy Warne. She produces, writes, and sings tracks full of skittering beats and fractured synths where 808 bass booms sit beneath delicate, celestial chords and lyrics about shadows pirouette around glimpses of light. Last year she released her collaborative mixtape “SCREAMER”, laden with musical touchstones from UK bassline, garage, and DnB, featuring a wealth of influential producers such as Iglooghost, sv1, umru & Pholo.SPOiiLSPORT is a devious, forward thinking take on the pop vocal pack: on top of melodies, chops, and adlibs to make your track shine, the pack boasts tantalizing FX and quirky drums crafted from the ground up using BABii’s voice. Or, in the words of the sticker label we found on the CD she mailed in to submit the pack, these are “the sounds of a sour-faced spoilsport who refuses to use anything but the sound of their own voice."

poppy essence, a six impala moment
Moment

poppy essence, a six impala moment

With members hailing from Canada, Argentina, Finland and The United States, the diversely talented and remarkably innovative music group six impala is best known for their explosive energy, provocative instrumentation and addictive song writing. Growing up online and developing their sensibilities in such different cultures and environments, six impala’s inspirations have grown incredibly contrasted, varied and personal in a way that forces discussion and compromise that results in an unmatched sonic identity. ‘poppy essence’ is inspired by their latest album EARWAX, a tragic narrative tale with an unapologetically aggressive sound palette comprising bombastic guitars, angelic vocal tones, ripping screams and sinister synth work. When we first contacted six impala, they agreed to work with us—but only if we met in the flesh to retrieve their work. We had a lot on our plate so we sent an intern. We never saw them again, but a few months later received a package with this message attached:::“I don’t recall how I arrived, but when I awoke I was immediately overwhelmed by an expansive white emptiness that festered far beyond the corners of my peripheral view. The only thing in sight was this puzzling collection of orbs floating in front of me. At the center of these was a screen, a keyboard and a large silver platter. The screen read ‘resonance extraction pending: press “enter” to commence’. I’m not sure what I expected, but upon hitting enter on the keyboard I started to hear a familiar, dark and dizzying pluck sound repeat itself six times in succession– suddenly, my very soul was extracted, stretched like putty, my fibers decoupled, I was reshaped as pure resonance and stuffed inside this box. When the process was complete, I collapsed and landed on the platter from before where they labeled me ‘poppy essence’.POPPY ESSENCE IS THE MANIFESTATION OF RESONANCE IN UPPER PLANE - RESONANCE IS A LIFE FORCE SUBDIVIDED INTO NEUTRAL, CYNICAL, SORROWED, SILLY, JOYOUS AND OPALINE TYPES. THANKS TO THE INVENTION OF THE RESONANCE DRIVE, THIS ESSENCE HAS BEEN CAREFULLY PACKAGED AND MADE SHAREABLE WITH ALL OF HUMANITY, DESPITE YOUR LOWLY EXISTENCES.”

Count Baldor Sample Pack

Count Baldor Sample Pack

Count Baldor is the current creative alias of Tom Parker, a British music producer and composer. Rather than seeing hyperpop as one defining sound, Parker considers it a continuation of artists like Shitmat, Ebola, and the rest of the Wrong Music squad, among others. Sometimes he works from a blank slate and just creates until he has something he likes. When he is pulling inspiration, it's from sources like UK garage, jazz, tv show themes, ancient lyre music, dubstep, psytrance, techno, IDM, etc. He shared, "I like to cherry-pick different things and just see what works together in an exciting way."When producing music and sounds, Parker likes to play around with various musical tropes and re-invent or repurpose something. He thinks others will find fun ways to incorporate a less serious attitude towards production and songwriting when working with his Splice pack.
